Fundamentals of Post-Installed Reinforcing Bar Design

This presentation will explain how reinforcing bars can be designed in accordance with the development and splice provisions of the American Concrete Institute ACI 318, “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete”, and post-installed using an adhesive system qualified per the provisions of the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC308.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Explain the new provisions for post-installed reinforcing bars that have been implemented into the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Post-Installed Adhesive Anchors in Concrete Elements (AC308).
  • Explain how post-installed reinforcing bars can be designed using the development and lap splice provisions of ACI 318-11 Chapter 12 and Chapter 21.
  • Explain how post-installed reinforcing bars can be designed for shear friction using the provisions of ACI 318-11 Chapter 11 and using an alternative design method.
